Are you in for a day at the beach?

Some say Mykonos has the best beaches in the Cyclades, others in the whole of Greece. Well beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, but with no doubt Mykonos’ beaches are stunning. Long, thick-sanded, golden bays with vibrant beach bars and 5-star services and facilities, transparent, azure-blue, crystal-clear waters, luxurious sunbeds and adventurous water sports, sushi and cocktails on the beach or secluded little bays, where you can still be literally and completely alone, the choice is yours, and you don’t even have to choose, you can have it both!

Psarou beach, undoubtedly the most famous and luxurious beach on the island -and probably the country- stands just a few minutes’ drive away from Chora and is the absolute place to see and be seen here. Mega-celebrities and VIPs enjoy its crystal-clear waters and golden sand, with a glass of the finest champagne in hand and await for its everyday epic parties to get started, which they always do. Here you can also find some of the globe’s most expensive and premium designer and jewellery boutiques, as well as a scuba diving and water sports’ centre.

Super Paradise beach is almost equally famous for its vibrant party scene, amazing waters and spectacular landscape, while its amazing dining spots and beach clubs attract all the right people all day long. Along with its neighbouring Paradise beach, which was discovered by a happy hippie crowd in the ’70s and showcases some of the best DJ parties on the island, these two bays are considered the places where the whole party scene of Mykonos actually began.

Paraga beach is also amazing and a regular meeting spot for stylish beach life and vibrant partying. The sunset here is mesmerising and the vibe is boho and cool. Still on the south side of Mykonos, Kalo Livadi, one of the island’s largest beaches, is an absolute must-visit with its pristine waters, endless golden sand and posh beach venues. Its welcoming shallow waters make it a good choice for families, while there is a lot of free space between its organised parts. Ornos, Panormos, Elia, Aghia Anna are also names to keep in mind.

The Chora experience

Mykonos’ Chora (Town) is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the Cyclades, with its labyrinthine small alleys taking you from one end to another and filling you with characteristic Cycladic vibes. In the front part, near the Old Port, you will find the area of Gialos, where the famous pelicans reside, and you can enjoy your seafront coffee and breakfast. Then allow yourself to get lost in the small and larger alleys, and the main Matogiannia alleyways, leading you to the centre of the Chora along posh boutiques and luxurious jewellery stores next to famous restaurants, lively bars, iconic meeting points and small local stores. You won’t stop posing and taking pictures by the numerous churches and under the colourful bougainvillea, until you reach the part of Little Venice.

Little Venice and the emblematic windmills -probably the trademark of the island- are justly the most photographed sites of Mykonos. Here you will see the 18th century buildings with their foundations residing beneath the sea, old pirate hideouts that today have been transformed into posh bars and clubs, and you will enjoy one of the best sunsets in Greece. Take a colourful cocktail in hand and salute the iconic windmills as the sun sets its beams and everything is painted in every possible hue of pink.

Do not miss the opportunity to go on an after-midnight shopping spree in Chora, before or after you enjoy your drinks and dinner in some of the world’s most famous dining spots, as every mega international restaurant brand can be found here, coexisting with the emblematic bars and clubs of the island.

Things you cannot miss while on Mykonos Island

The 24-hour partying 7 days a week. On Mykonos the fun never stops, from the beach parties and the sunbed champagnes to the epic DJ parties and the emblematic clubbing scene, there is always a party happening somewhere on the island. Remember here everything is possible, and it is maybe the only place in the world that when you go clubbing it’s best to take your sunglasses along, as it’s more than possible that dawn will still find you partying somewhere and with someone.

The dining scene here is out of this world, as you can come across everything. From the traditional taverna operating without electricity in Aghios Sostis beach and the agrotourism farm restaurants allowing you to experience the olden times authentic side of the island to mega-famous international restaurant brands and award-winning chefs, there is literally nothing you can’t find in this island’s restaurant landscape.

Visiting the sacred island of Delos, located just a few nautical miles away from Mykonos, is an experience that cannot be missed. The energy here is unearthly and you will get to see and feel antiquity and history at its finest. Do book an organised tour, it is definitely worth your while. So, while hopping on the boat to visit Delos, you will get to also see Rhenia and Tragonisi, other small neighbouring islands, swim in literally the most crystal-clear waters you have ever come across, and, why not, maybe book along and some lifestyle cooking sessions, with the crew catching fish and cooking it live on the beach for you and your friends.

The sunset from Little Venice is a blast, however if you are feeling kind of romantic, you can always head for the Armenistis Lighthouse, dating all the way back to the 19th century. The sunset view from here is out of this world, plus you get to see all the neighbouring islands laying just there -what seems like a few feet away on a clear day, and it is magical.
