For the beach Lovers, a must-see list of Chania beaches

Golden Beach or Chrissi Akti gets its name because of the incredible colour of the sand on this beautiful beach. It is one of the closest beaches to the town of Chania offering plenty of accommodations like sunbeds and umbrellas. Golden beach consists in three soft sandy beaches with clear and shallow waters.

Falassarna Beach

Falassarna Beach is one of the best beaches of Crete located in a beautiful fertile plane near the village of Platanos and 58 km west of Chania town. It consists of pure and soft golden sand and incredible clean and turquoise waters. A few umbrellas and sun beds can be found along the beach. Falassarna is truly an idyllic and quiet place and has been declared as one of the cleanest beaches in Greece. During windy days it is better to avoid swimming. From the beach the view is astonishing, and the sunsets are magical. A few local taverns with great food can be found in the surrounding area.

Balos Beach

Balos Beach is one of the best beaches in Greece and among the most beautiful beaches in Crete that lies 53 km northwest of Chania Town. It is seen as a lagoon from the hills above the beach. This stunning beach has white sand, soft seabed and crystal water. Across from the beach, there is a rocky isle called Gramvousa and on top of this island, there is a steep Venetian castle with an amazing view of the region and the sea.

Elafonisi day trip from Chania

Get back to nature on a day trip from Chania. Spend a relaxing day at Elafonisi beach (or Elafonissos), which means the Island of Deer in Greek language. Is a small islet connected to the rest of Crete by a shallow reef that can be crossed when the sea is calm. This islet lies 82 km northwest of Chania town and can be reached by boat from Paleochora or by car from the village of Vathi, until a point and then cross the reef. It is like paradise on earth and has a wonderful beach with pink coral sand and crystalline waters. It is considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. This magical place was deserted for a long time but now it has become a popular sight and can get crowded during the high summer season. It has been listed as a special environmental region and it is protected by an environmental program under the EU. Get at least 4 hours to relax, swim in the crystal clear water and soak up the sun on this paradise beach. Saunter in the sun, or go for a walk along the pink sand beach. There are beach kiosks around, where you can buy some food and water. Elafonisi island can be reached by walking through the water. The beach and the island are protected wildlife areas of rare beauty. Pick up is offered.

For the beach Lovers, a must-see list of Rethymno beaches

Preveli Beach is possibly the most famous of Crete’s beaches. Situated at the mouth of the Kourtaliotiko Gorge, this is where the Grand River flows into the Mediterranean. It has a tropical landscape with several Theophrastus palm trees which line the river for around 500 meters before it empties into the sea. The beach itself is a small crescent flanked by cliffs with the lush green of the gorge behind. The shallow river runs across the beach, emptying in the far western corner and whilst the sand is coarse and pebbly this means the water is even clearer. As well as exploring the backdrop and river beyond, be sure to find the rock that is shaped like a heart. The beach is well sheltered from the wind and waves, so you won’t need umbrellas or wind breaks.

Bali Coast

This coast has four sheltered beaches, all sandy and with green-grey crystal waters and a small harbour. For lovers of water-sports, Bali also has a diving school. The beach you encounter when entering Bali is the largest of all. It is well-equipped and attracts a large crowd in the summer. The second beach lies a little bit to the east; however, it hasn’t got any infrastructure and therefore fewer visitors. The third beach is small and sheltered, with sand and clear waters, it used to be unorganized but now has lovely fresh-fish taverns as well as hotels and apartments to rent all around. You will also find the small port and the fourth beach which is the most scenic of all, organized, with umbrellas and sunbeds.
