CORFU

The Queen of the Ionian Sea

A glorious history, a multi-cultural heritage, amazing beaches, a most charming Old Town, and an abundance of things to see and do, make Corfu one of Greece’s most sought-after destinations.

Cosmopolitan and aristocratic by nature, this is an island of legends

Corfu, named Kerkyra in Greek, is a large island with an even larger history. As one of the very few places in Greece that never fell under the Ottoman Rule, it presents several differences with other Greek destinations. At the same time, it acquires a multi-cultural past, due to the fact that it was influenced by the Venetians, the English, the French and the Russians during different eras, all of whom left their distinct mark on this beautiful island. This was the place where the first Greek University, the first Philharmonic Orchestra (and one of the most famous in Greece to this day) and the first Fine Arts School were founded, and those facts say a lot about Corfu’s character and nature.
