Ikaria island is located on the Eastern Aegean sea, and 10 nautical miles southwest of Samos island. It is one of the worldwide famous Greek islands, due to the Ikarian diet, which explains why it is in the Blue Zone region of the world. Other reasons, such as the longevity of its inhabitants, geography, culture, lifestyle and outlook, makes Ikaria famous across the globe. The locals enjoy strong red wine, late-night domino games and a relaxed pace of life that ignores clocks. Clean air, warm breezes and rugged terrain draw them outdoors into an active lifestyle. According to the tradition, the name derives from Icarus, the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who was believed to have fallen into the sea nearby.

Every summer a range of people visit the island for one thousand reasons! The Dionysian music festivals every August, the beaches, the mountains, the canyons, thermal waters, the hospitality of people and the freedom vibes make the island totally lovable! Ikaria has an airport and two ports, so it is approachable in every way! It would be a good idea to have a car in order to explore the island, because the distances are long. The accommodation is upgraded, the food is always fresh and the wine is genuine!

The island is also home to a surf school, thanks to the strong wind called ‘’meltemia’’. Ikaria Surf School is on the northern beach of Messakti and it offers affordable Surfing lessons, SUP classes, Yoga and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a combined option. Another surf spot is Livadi beach, well known for the big waves! You will definitely fall in love with the island, the rhythm of life which is in pace and you will feel like a local at once! Ikaria island is a Greek spot known for its beauty, its summer festivals and the past years for its surf, too!

Settle in your room and then we suggest you go for a swim in Nas beach, one of the most famous beaches of the island. Nas is an idyllic place seemingly frozen in time. Tucked into a scenic cove, this small, sandy clothing-optional beach is bordered by river & sea. It is situated at the union of the Chalares River and the Aegean Sea. If you want something more adventurous you shouldn’t miss the famous Halaris Hiking Path which leads you to the Waterfalls and the Canyon. It is a mesmerizing landscape, like a paradise! Don’t forget to have a dry snack with you and some water. You can swim in the small lakes of Chalares river or sit by the trees and feel the nature vibes! For lunch you may return to the Nas beach and eat at Thea’s Inn restaurant, a classic white-blue Greek Fish tavern with fresh food, lovely environment and amazing sea view! One of the must-see things in Nas beach is the sunset. Settle on the beach or on your tavern with the view and watch the sun dive into the blue waters amidst the rocky surroundings.

After this full day return to your hotel and rest. For your night out, we suggest you visit Sknipa Rock Bar which is at the top of Raches village. At this bar, you can experience the best parties with a Jamaican ambience and endless cocktails.

  • Day 2

Enjoy a nice breakfast, and then we suggest you spend your day by the most fantastic beach of the island. The famous hidden-away Seychelles beach is at the southern part of the island, and you arrive there by walking through a path after you park your car in the parking area.

Next stop is Magganitis village, which is 1km further away. There you can enjoy the beautiful Firodi beach. For lunch you should stop at Sto Gialo Kanei Fourtouna restaurant. It is an amazing spot with tropical decoration, great dishes, cool drinks, fun music, and it is known for its amazing hospitality! Spend your time by the coast and enjoy the sunset before you head back to your hotel for rest.

After a long day of surfing, we recommend you have dinner at Hidden Ikaria restaurant, a balcony waterfront place with modern dishes and lovely environment!

For a night out, you can either stay at one of the beach bars across Messakti beach or you could also head to Armenistis village which is less than 2km away, have a walk by the picturesque harbour with its little boats and the laid-out nets ready for the fishermen’s next catch and have a relaxing cocktail at Rebelo, an ambient beach kafeneio-bar in the village with nice drinks and the best music!
